OUR MISSION

FIRST Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

SECOND Provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Monthly meeting of local chapter of national non-profit 501-3C which makes blankets for children and donate those blankets in the community. Drop off your finished blankets, donations of fabric, fleece or yarn. See the blankets that are donated and help sew Project Linus label on each blanket before being donated. Meet the volunteers. There is always a way you can help. Stay for as long as you want or for the entire meeting.
THE BIRTH OF PROJECT LINUS
On Christmas Eve, 1995, an article titled Joy to the World appeared in Parade Magazine. It was written by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. Part of the article featured a petite, downy haired child. She had been going through intensive chemotherapy and stated that her security blanket helped her get through the treatments. After reading the article, Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade security blankets to Denver's Rocky Mountain Children's Cancer Center, and Project Linus was born. As Karen's efforts were publicized, chapters were formed across the United States. Family Circle magazine ran a article on Project Linus in the July 15, 1997 issue. On May 8, 2000, Karen and Project Linus was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show.
HISTORY OF OUR CHAPTER
On May 8, 2000 Karen Loucks who founded Project Linus was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. After watching the segment of the Oprah show which featured people making a difference, including Project Linus founder Karen Loucks.
Julia Sullivan contacted the national headquarters of Project Linus to inquiry if a chapter could be started in Orange County, NY. The rest is history with the Orange County Chapter starting 1/2001 with the first deliveries of blankets being done on 3/28/2001 to the Pediatric Unit of Horton Hospital, Middletown, NY and Inspire, Goshen, NY.
When the Julia moved to Pike County, PA in the fall of 2004, Pike County was added and the chapter became known as the Orange County, NY / Pike County, PA chapter.
